  4. "Who owns reprints?" If parts fail inspection, who pays for the do-over?
  5. "What's the total if everything goes slightly wrong?"

I call it the Transparency Test. If a vendor won't give a complete, written price before I commit, I walk. A quote that doesn't list its conditions isn't a quote—it's an opening bid in a negotiation you didn't know you were in.

Bringing More Work Back In-House

This experience also changed our equipment roadmap. The two Ultimaker 2+ units are still in rotation for everyday jobs—they're paid off, reliable, and we know exactly what they cost to run.
